THE decision by Aer Lingus to discontinue its tradition of repatriating the dead is a backward step. The number is estimated at 1,200 per year.

This decision represents the end of the now very thin line separating Ryanair from Aer Lingus.

Indeed, in my experience, when Ryanair undertook this last journey of a human being they were treated with far greater dignity than the living seated above them.
