McCarthy fell on his own sword

CATHAL Dervan's article (Irish Examiner, Nov 6) on Mick McCarthy’s departure was childish.

To suggest that "now Keane has got his way," and that McCarthy had been naive, is irrelevant. Let's stick to the facts... without our captain we were shown up for what we are average.

With Keane we are a different force.

The media didn't have to drive McCarthy out; he did it all by himself.

His repeated blind loyalty to players like Kilbane, Harte and Breen was the final straw.

Don't even get me started on Duff not playing on the wing.

No doubt McCarthy is a decent man, but his inadequacies in team selection and tactics were extremely evident as of late. No need to blame the media, Mick. The people have spoken.
