No evidence vehicle defect caused accident

YOUR edition of April 22 included a story claiming that “serious concerns have been expressed over the state of An Post delivery vans following a single vehicle accident involving a North Tipperary politician”.

The An Post employee who was driving the van at the time believed that “mechanical failure was a factor”.

At no stage did the Irish Examiner ask An Post for its version of events. This lapse in professionalism was compounded by the addition of the following: “Present requirements ensure An Post vans are exempt from the rigours of the NCT (sic) test.”
