(3) The greatest social service which sports organisations render to society is to divert young people away from the-devil-finds-work-for-idle-hands binge drinking lifestyle.
The response?
The Minister for Health decides to make A&E a priority.
The Minister for Sport decides to give the GAA €40m but no more.
The Minister for Agriculture brings in a new land act which means that clubs whose lands are held by trustees can now transfer them to the national sports organisation and the clubs can then apply for grants of lottery cash.
Would it ever occur to these three ministers, who are members of the same Government, to lay down a calendar of grants for all sporting organisations over several years - but only on condition that they agree that they will not accept sponsorship from booze companies and that their clubs, or individual members, will not advertise alcoholic drink?
