New policy needed for multicultural society

YOUR report headlined ‘State policies fuelling racism crisis’ (Irish Examiner, January 4) paints a worrying and depressing picture of increasing racism in Ireland 2005.

New policy needed for multicultural society

Not only is the Government showing a woeful lack of leadership on this pressing problem, but it is in effect contributing to it by its ‘fortress Ireland’ approach and disparaging remarks about ‘bogus asylum seekers’ and ‘citizen tourists’.

Their tardiness in carrying out the promised review of the Prohibition of Incitement to Hatred Act displays an arrogant attitude to the issue of asylum seekers.
