I FIND it a bit rich that Charlie McCreevy is extolling the virtues of the new euro-mortgage as providing cheaper and better loans for all Europeans (Irish Examiner, December 14).

Only a few month ago, in another guise, he was less concerned for hard-pressed Irish consumers who would love to have the same Europe-wide equality, choice and value applied to the purchase of their new cars.

Perhaps, in his new job as Internal Market Commissioner for Europe, Mr McCreevy might now bring pressure to bear on the Irish Government to abolish Vehicle Registration Tax on the basis that all European consumers deserve the same fair deal. He might even instigate legislation on this issue.
