REGARDING Michael J Stokes' letter headlined 'Source of shame' (Irish Examiner, July 1), the US troops I have talked to are shocked at how their efforts in Iraq are portrayed in the media, a very different picture from what they have actually been doing.

If you want the truth, talk to the troops

Apparently the world is more intent on condemning the US than in finding out what we've done in Iraq.

The troops removed a brutal dictator, rebuilt the country, restored and improved water and electrical supplies, rebuilt schools and hospitals, and helped set up a new representative government. By the way, the few troops who abused prisoners are being prosecuted and sentenced in US military courts.
