IT WAS with great delight that I read of the achievement of the Turkish contractor, Gama Tubin, in completing phase one of the Ballincollig bypass ahead of schedule.

In recognition of this and the long tradition of a Turkish aspect to Cork culture might I respectfully suggest that the new bypass be named the Hadji Bey Expressway.

It would be a small but nevertheless sweet victory for those championing the use of relevant local placenames.
