Parade lesson for the Soldiers of Destiny

I MUST give credit where it is due to the Taoiseach and the organisers of the Easter Sunday parade in Dublin.

Parade lesson for the Soldiers of Destiny

I was impressed. Our lads in uniform looked the part, proud of themselves, their history and their country, and not one truck broke down or ran out of juice.

As a nation we had been waiting too long for this - although I still question the motives behind it.

If the opinion polls do not take a jump in Fianna Fáil’s favour, stopping the rise of Sinn Féin on the back of this show of ‘green’ strength, I would strongly advise any FF backbencher in a marginal seat not to accept an invitation from our recently converted republican socialist Taoiseach to meet him in Kilmainham Jail. As 1916 proves, nothing stirs public opinion like a few hastily orgainised executions.
