IN previous correspondence, I bemoaned the fact that the museum at Collins Barracks had given no recognition to the Volunteers executed at the facility during the War of Independence.

Volunteers finally get their recognition

Having recently returned to the museum, I was delighted to observe that efforts have been made to rectify the situation.

While those executed are not specifically mentioned, I was pleased to see that a Roll of Honour, commemorating all of those members of the Cork No 1 Brigade, who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the period 1916-23, is displayed in a prominent position.
