Lord of wisdom

WITH reference to the atrocious acts we are witnessing on our TV screens, it is worth remembering Lord Acton’s famous dictum: “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

The Americans in Iraq, believing they have absolute power, are becoming absolutely corrupt. However, as they are discovering, that power is being tamed by the media and the forthcoming US elections.

In the run-up to our own local elections, let’s remember Lord Acton.
