ESB should tread softly

I WISH to compliment Martin Ryan on his challenge to the ESB and indeed other users of Irish farmland (Irish Examiner Farming, August 18).

ESB should tread softly

The EU restricts how farmers work their land. However, the same restrictions do not apply to people who, as Martin Ryan points out, believe “they have a God-given right to the use of, and benefit from, farmland.”

Many farmers are unhappy with how their fields are left by the ESB. The stumps of poles have been left in the ground. This is a health and safety hazard that would not be tolerated in any other workplace. The farmers of north Kerry have been unfairly singled out for criticism by the ESB. Farmers should not be afraid to object.
