Shine a light for the hunger strikers

I WOULD request readers to light a candle in memory of men who measured up to the mantle of 1916.

Shine a light for the hunger strikers

By lighting a candle in a window on March 26, the courage and heroism of 12 young men, who refused to be criminalised and who died on hunger strike in the H-Blocks, Parkhurst and Wakefield prisons between June 1974 and August 1981, will be commemorated and acclaimed.

The men are Michael Gaughan, Frank Stagg, Bobby Sands, Francis Hughes, Raymond McCreesh, Patsy O'Hara, Joe McDonnell, Martin Hurson, Kieran Doherty, Thomas McElwee, Kevin Lynch and Mickey Devine.
