THE Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) is a registered charity involved in rescuing and rehabilitating neglected or abused horses and ponies.

The IHWT also seeks to prevent cruelty to these wonderful animals and it recently launched a petition to have the export of live horses for slaughter outlawed.

Since the 1960s there is a state policy against this trade, but it still legitimate.
