Ban the export of horses for slaughter
The IHWT also seeks to prevent cruelty to these wonderful animals and it recently launched a petition to have the export of live horses for slaughter outlawed.
Since the 1960s there is a state policy against this trade, but it still legitimate.
The trust is asking all involved in the forthcoming elections to declare their support for legislation to outlaw this cruel trade. When, and if, horses have to be slaughtered it should be done in Ireland.
We are asking parties and candidates for a reply by May 31, after which we will publish the results.
