Unanswered questions in Judge Curtin case

IN relation to the Judge Curtin fiasco I would like to know...

(a) Why such a tight deadline was allowed in the most sensitive of searches, especially as this was a member of the judiciary and, as such, would have a huge media and public interest, and

(b) What steps have been taken to ensure that there is never a repeat of this farcical episode?
