Cathedral changes

I AGREE with Seán Healy (Irish Examiner letters, April 13) in relation to the proposed alternations to Cobh cathedral.

While the Church authorities might hold the title deeds to the building, I am sure all will agree it belongs to the whole Church community, and not just its administrators.

Ironically, the people of Cobh will probably be the ones part funding the changes through their donations to the collection plate on Sundays.

Instead of petitioning the bishop not to implement the changes, they should write to him promising to keep their hands firmly in their pockets on Sundays if he ploughs ahead anyway.

The deafening silence in the collection plates will speak far louder than any impassioned or reasoned argument falling on deaf ears.
