Return of Israel predates 1948

I AM not certain how old Mr Breandan MacCathail (Irish Examiner, July 12) is but obviously he did not go to Sunday School at the same time as me.

I distinctly remember being taught about the “Land of Israel” well before the re-establishment of the Jewish State of that name in 1948.

Therefore it is not true that this name was not in use for 2,000 years.

I also remember reading about Jewish pioneers draining the swamps and cultivating deserted tracts of land in the “Land of Israel”.
