Coming and going: a guide to Irish hypocrisy

On page 2 we saw an account of the plight of the black South African mother who chose to flee the country rather than face the forced deportation of herself and her daughters to the violence which killed her husband and son. This after being allowed to establish a settled life here for two and a half years.

On page 5 we had Michael Ring, TD, expressing his hope for an amnesty for illegal Irish economic migrants in the US. He stated that it wa a ‘terribly sad situation’ that if they came home for Christmas they might not get back into the US. “Many of them will spend Christmas on their own this year. They are missing their families and their families are missing them,” he said.
