Government has put a muzzle on democracy
What the Government is trying to do is to deny the Irish people access to information that they are perfectly entitled to have. In other words, it is putting a muzzle on democracy as we know it.
This information would include the reasons why previous Government ministers took important decisions. As a general rule one should always be suspicious when people try to keep things a secret and this applies particularly to governments.
After all, governments act on behalf of the people, or so they like to tell us, so why should they be going out of their way to keep important matters secret from the people?
The PDs were supposed to be the watchdogs of this Government. What has happened to their lily-white policies of honesty, integrity and transparency? By their fruits you shall know them. The curtailing of the Freedom of Information Act is a good example. Surely no sane person wants this country to regress back into a secret society as we set off into the 21st century.
Shame on all of them.
Cllr Noel Collins,
St Jude's,
Midleton,
Co Cork.
