Smells like trouble

THE many flaws in the new bin collection/recycling system in Cork have been well publicised.

But there is something else that's likely to be a major nuisance come the summer.

I live in a house with three others. As a result of the separate collection of recyclables and our use of composting, we have only been putting our bin out for collection every five to six weeks.

This all sounds great but, unfortunately, most of what is put in the bin is food waste, which makes the bin a little smelly after a few weeks and we're only in February yet.

Imagine the smell on city streets if we get a warm summer.
