PLEASE tell us it is a figment of our imagination that Cork city manager Joe Galvin is thinking of charging for the plastic bags issued to households for recycled waste.

We in the Labour Party accept that waste charges are necessary.

The tax on plastic bags in supermarkets showed that any charge will reduce the consumption of an item.

Therefore, if we want to encourage recycling, any charge on the recycling bags will be a disincentive.

Please let us know that logic still applies at City Hall and that we are misinformed.
