FOREIGN Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern has admitted, in effect, that the target date for achieving the UN goal of giving 0.7% of GNP to overseas aid won’t be met.

He also said the Government would not be rushed into naming a new date to meet our solemn commitments to the international community.

It is ironic that such comments should have been made during a Dáil debate on ‘making poverty history’.
