THE long distance transport of Irish animals to Europe and beyond is a huge concern to Compassion in World Farming. We are appalled the EU has agreed to the transport of Irish cattle via Britain.

Worse still, the decision requires animals to be carried in sealed trucks, making it very difficult to find out if they are in difficulties.

With current journey times allowing 28 hours on the truck - and a one-hour stop for water during which the animals remain on the vehicle - it seems unlikely that these animals will be viewed by competent personnel throughout that period.
