AS the current foxhunting season kicked off, record numbers of hunt ban notices appeared in provincial newspapers nationwide.

The resounding message to foxhunters from the thousands of landowners who have placed these advertisements at their own expense is unequivocal: ‘Keep off our land.’

Despite this, I can safely predict that before the season has run its course, hunts will have invaded hundreds of farms, destroying property, crops and livestock. In their frenzied pursuit of the fox, they are guilty of breaking and entering on a grand scale.
