Irish Examiner View: Two good plans

Over recent months many of us have had an opportunity to renew our relationship with the world just beyond our doorstep. Those lucky enough to have a near-by opportunity to walk or cycle in an attractive setting are blessed so two initiatives from Cork City Council, even if one has been recycled, are very welcome.
The council hopes to secure Garryduff Woods, a 26-hectare site, so it might be used as a public amenity in perpetuity. There may be teething problems in this project but the long-term goal of a well-managed public space is more than worth the effort.
So too are plans to encourage cycling in the city even if these promises may have been made before. The return of clean air, because traffic was greatly reduced at the height of C19 restrictions, adds to the great arguments in favour of commuter cycling.
