It is hard not to think that even the Government’s most ardent supporters must feel a growing sense of frustration and some embarrassment too, at its utterly inadequate response to the housing crisis. If they don’t, then they should.

The latest episode in this pass-the-parcel fiasco came yesterday when Taoiseach Leo Varadkar had to refute accusations that the Government’s criticism of local authorities’ slow delivery of homes was an attempt to pass the blame for the crisis.
