EU’s shared sense of purpose prevailed

That European Union leaders managed to reach any agreement on immigration must be welcomed — even if that agreement will be tested to destruction.

That the deal will sustain Chancellor Angela Merkel for the medium term at least is another consequence that cannot be overlooked at a time of increasing instability, inside and outside the EU.
