IN a recent leader you seemed to imply that “on account of the realities of modern life,” we should change the law so as to give little more support to the traditional family than to other unions.

Traditional couples are wealthier and healthier

But the evidence is now overwhelming that men and women who live in a stable public marriage are wealthier, work better, have less illness, are less likely to be unemployed, live longer, and are more fulfilled sexually than those in other unions.

Equally, their children are more likely to be well educated and well trained, able to hold down a job, have a happier family life, are less likely to divorce or separate, and are less inclined to drugs, excessive alcohol and criminality.
