Bertie must stop mixed messages

WITH only 18 days to polling on the Nice referendum, the Government can ill afford the spectacle of a Cabinet split on such major political questions as the re-introduction of third level fees.

The last thing confused voters need at this stage is to hear members of the Coalition singing from different hymn sheets at a time when people are trying to unravel the complexities of the treaty designed to pave the way for European enlargement.

With public trust in this Government already wavering, it should make its position on college fees clear.
