Trinity College Dublin has announced that it has set a target of having 15% of its students from “non-traditional” backgrounds by 2010.

This will amount to more than a doubling of the number of “non-traditional” students who take up undergraduate entry places each year.

The category includes mature students, students with disabilities and those from poor and underprivileged backgrounds. The university is attempting to promote more equal opportunities, which is a particularly brave move after the Government cut funding to all third-level institutions last year.
