As a result of Government cutbacks, hospitals are facing the prospect of limiting cancer services, canceling dialysis treatment, and closing beds. Against all the odds, doctors and nurses provide an outstanding service at Crumlin. But the facilities are so inadequate, the hospital is at the bottom of the European league.

Nationally, the health scenario is socially and politically explosive. The Government may argue that funding is running at record levels, but much of the money has gone into administration at the cost of medical and nursing services.
