Transport strikes - Nothing to be gained from action

WHAT could be more cynical than a nationwide transport strike in the immediate aftermath of St Patrick’s Day?

Nothing is more calculated to cause maximum chaos, or inflict widespread disruption on the travelling public.

Inevitably, thousands of tourists visiting Ireland for St Patrick’s Day parades will be among those directly affected by the rash of strikes, including 24-hour bus and rail disruption and a six-hour stoppage at the three main airports.
