Road carnage - Tests for L-drivers a safety issue

ON the face of it, the Government’s move to boost driving tests in an effort to reduce Ireland’s enormous backlog of L-drivers appears eminently sensible.

Given the appalling carnage on our roads, any measure that promises to make driving safer ought to be welcomed.

Because of the sheer scale of the backlog of 125,000 learner drivers, it is absolutely imperative that realistic steps be taken to bring this unacceptable scenario under control.
