Man Utd takeover - What’s all the fuss about? It’s business
When all is said and done, the reality is that the biggest club in the world of soccer has been operating as a plc for years. It’s a business.
Admittedly, United attracts greater intensity and passion, one way or another, than any other Premiership club. While opponents gloat at the notion of Old Trafford being taken over by a predator who has never been within its hallowed precincts, it is anathema to diehard fans protesting against the deal.
But despite their resentment of US sports tycoon Malcolm Glazer, who controls almost 75% of the club following his £790 million takeover offer, his ownership bid is unstoppable. Criticism of John Magnier and JP McManus, who made a cool profit of €130 million on their shares, is unwarranted. It’s just business.
