Garda accountability - Acceptance of mistake a good start

The acceptance by the Garda Representatives Association (GRA) that gardaí should give an account of their movements when being questioned is a welcome development.

It was absurd to suggest that they should be allowed to behave like suspected criminals in refusing to answer questions.

It is not enough that the police should be seen to enforce the law; they should also be clearly seen to observe the laws that they are enforcing.
