THERE is a sense of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted about Transport Minister Seamus Brennan’s plan to outlaw super trucks on Ireland’s roads.

An increasing phenomenon on Irish roads, ironically the huge lorries are too big to access Dublin’s port tunnel, a project aimed at relieving the capital’s perpetual gridlock.

Having made the tunnel too small to accommodate juggernauts, they would be given the green light to pass through the heart of the city, thus defeating the purpose of the exercise.
