Mobile phones - EC backing is good news for consumer

THE European Commission ruled yesterday in favour of more competition in the Irish mobile phone market.

The commission had asked various national regulators to review mobile phone competition within their jurisdictions.

Irish regulator the Commissioner for Communications Regulation (ComReg) concluded in a report last December that mobile phone prices were too high, in that they were more than one-third higher than the average European price.
