Sellafield danger - Plant must be closed for safety’s sake

BRITAIN’S total disregard for the safety of tens of thousands of Irish people living in the nuclear shadow of Sellafield is both arrogant and contemptuous.

As Environment Minister Martin Cullen told British Energy Minister Brian Wilson yesterday, it is absolutely unacceptable for British Nuclear Fuels to continue discharging radioactive waste into the Irish Sea.

As a result of the company’s shameful tactics, the waters off Ireland’s east coast now contain the greatest concentration of radioactive pollution in the world.
