It was 1pm when my six-year-old son Darragh looked at me and said: “I have a really long day ahead of me, Mammy.”
Most children that age say things like this when they are waiting for something exciting. For Darragh, it meant something else entirely. It was his way of telling me that the exhaustion and discomfort in his small body felt endless. This was during his first wait for scoliosis surgery.
