Patriotism is being manipulated and mainstream political parties must reclaim it

Mainstream parties must reclaim the mantle of patriotism as no society or economy has ever prospered in the long term by rejecting globalism, writes Bill Emmott

THE new faultline in politics, according to Marine Le Pen, leader of France’s far-right National Front, is between globalists and patriots. It is an argument similar to those being made by euroskeptics in the UK and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the US.

It is, however, as false as it is dangerous.
