You’ve travelled a long journey to leadership, and I have no doubt the apprenticeship will serve you well. Your sense of values is respected and trusted, and that’s a lot to be going on with. You’re also starting with a pretty clean sheet, and there’s a lot to be said for being able to abandon the baggage of some of the pre-election stuff.

It’s the height of impertinence, I know, for an old-timer like me to be offering advice. Nothing is more irritating than that old guy in the corner who starts every sentence with “Ah now in my day . . .” But I’m guessing you might be in listening mode right now (and listening just mightn’t be your greatest skill), so here goes with a few cheeky suggestions.
