Backbenchers in the line of fire
THE proposed education cutbacks in the budget did not just trigger the predictable Government-opposition battle. They also heightened the battle between the opposition parties themselves, as well as placing intense focus on one particular Government backbencher.
The opposition battle is between Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin. There is a sense among some Government ministers that Sinn Féin has, to date, made a much better job of opposition than Fianna Fáil.
