On the crest of a wave from Kerry to the Caribbean

DAMIAN FOXALL isn’t the first Kerryman to leave the shores of Ireland in search of adventure, but he is one of the few to have done so with an equal degree of style, grace, grit and determination, sailing round the world so often that he has lost count.

He is about to take part in the Volvo Ocean Race for the fourth time, an extraordinary feat that is testament to his skill, vigour and resilience. Unquestionably Ireland’s finest ocean racing sailor, he lives in France, and his name is whispered with awe among sailing’s elite. Already this year he has notched up two world racing successes, the Jules Verne Trophy and the Route du Rhumm.
