David Bowie once said: “Ageing is an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.” What is it to become older, and when does being older dawn on us?

I can’t recall the morning I woke up and realised there were more years behind me than what lay ahead. It finally dawned on me that I will never upstage time.
