Kevin McCarthy’s letter of April 13 completely misses the point and mischaracterises the boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaign.

It has been in existence for more than ten years and is not in response to one incident of murder by the Israeli military, but rather thousands. Israeli forces have killed 2,000 Palestinian children, wounded 13,000, and jailed 12,000 since 2000 — such murders are not isolated incidents.

The BDS call comes from Palestinian civil society and is also in response to Israel’s policies of occupation, ethnic cleansing, apartheid, and siege.
