A tribute in poem to mark the people on 1916

They fought for us in sixteen
Brave fir agus mna
So that we would not have
to live under British law.
Make our own constitution
A “free nation once again”
Our own national anthem
Written by an Irish pen
And so one hundred years on
We can sing that song
and make all our own rules
as we march along.
They gave their lives from freedom
The people of Nineteen Sixteen
They gave us the Irish nation
The flag that bears the green.
