An SSIA-style scheme could fund housing

A large number of those on the social housing waiting lists nationwide are single, one or two bed apartments would solve their accommodation problem.

In the private rental market you also have a shortage of reasonable priced accommodation, apartments for single people and students. The result is that single people are being forced to rent 3-4 bed houses in residential estates.

No doubt, if you took all single workers and students out of the housing market and built reasonable priced and decent-sized apartments for them, it would free up this accommodation for families.
