Trump for President: Who’s laughing?

ANYONE old enough to remember as far back as the 1960s may recall a weekly comedy show called Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-in. It was an American sketch comedy TV programme that ran from 1968 until 1973 and was hosted by Dan Rowan and Dick Martin.

A regular sketch included ‘news of the future’ and one famous 1968 episode imagined the future 20 years on with Ronald Reagan as US President. The idea was so laughable that it was thought it could never happen, but it did.

Likewise Donald Trump. It is not so long ago that the thought of him entering the White House was unthinkable but, after his success in the Super Tuesday primaries, Trump is well on his way to receiving the Republican nomination.

The English comedian John Oliver who hosts a chat show on US television took a pot-shot at Trump and his nefarious ways, but he never dismissed the notion that he might be president.

That is because there is nothing funny about a lying, racist, unpredictable and deranged leader of the free world.
