The quote on Fergus Finlay’s column (February 9) that ‘politics is corrupt, public administration is corrupt, and democracy is dead’ is not true.
Our democracy isn’t perfect but it functions

The democratic system in this country is human and imperfect. As happens in all democracies it is sometimes corrupt but it is not dead.

And that the ideal of the equality of citizens in a democracy is sometimes more honoured in the breach than in the observance does not mean that it does not exist.
