Pauline Tully was wrong to suggest that the Gardaí were part of a war

When Ms Pauline Tully, the estranged wife of garda killer Pearse McAuley, decided to speak out in the media last weekend, a question was put to her on the radio about ‘why she decided to marry a garda killer?’

Pauline Tully was wrong to suggest that the Gardaí were part of a war

In her reply Ms Tully switched back to her Sinn Féin days saying, ‘difficult things happen in war’.

McAuley and his associates shot Detective gardaí Jerry McCabe and Ben O’Sullivan in Adare, Co Limerick.

They were two men carrying out their duties as members of An Garda Siochána, the police force of the Irish Republic.

Maybe Ms Tully would explain what ‘war’ was taking place in the Republic of Ireland at the time?

Otherwise we must take it that she agrees with members of An Garda Siochána being regarded as legitimate targets by Sinn Féin gunmen.
